Research Initiatives:

MSc Degree Programme

MSc Degree Programme is a 2 year Post Graduate Programme offered by Mahatma Gandhi University. The programme is under the Credit Semester Scheme, consisting of four semesters spread over a period of two years. The programme and syllabus is in compliance with the UGC minimum standards for the conduct and award of post graduate degree.

M.Sc. Biochemistry
Programme Objective:

• Provide in-depth understanding of the core principles of Biochemistry and their experimental aspects.
• The students get an overview of the recent trends, and will be able to annexe updated information to their knowledge base.
• This programme also aims a study on some of the emerging areas of Bioscience.

Eligibility Criteria:

A candidate seeking admission to M.Sc. Biochemistry must have at least 50%marks in biological sciences( Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology) or Chemistry at the graduate level.

M.Sc. Bioinformatics
Programme Objective:

 • Nurturing novel ideas and meaningful insights through scientific thinking.
• Enabling critical analysis of problems and situations to reach solutions.
• Development of communication skills to present scientific data in oral and written formats.
• Providing a platform for individual and collective work.
• Understanding the significance of sustainable scientific processes to support the environment

Eligibility Criteria:

Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Botany, Zoology/Plant Biology/Chemistry/Computer Science, Computer Application, Electronics, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Statistics or Life Science stream with a minimum of 50 % marks in aggregate from a recognized University or Part III Core Group (Core + Complementary + Open Courses) with not less than CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.

M.Sc. Bionanotechnology
Programme Objective:

• The aim of the programme is to highlight the importance of biological components in the field of nanotechnology.
• It is designed as to give the student an understanding of the nanostructures existing in nature at cellular and molecular level and to appreciate how this understanding of these self-assembling or multifunctional systems at a nano-scale finds application in diverse fields.
• The program seeks to provide the following: to advance education and research in Bionanotechnology and explore sustainable solutions for agriculture, environment and energy sectors.

B.Sc. Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Botany/ Plant Science, Forestry, Zoology/Animal Science, Life Sciences, Nanotechnology, Biophysics, Environmental Science, Food Science, B.Tech Biomedical Engineering, B.Tech. Biotechnology, B. Tech Bioinformatics, B. Tech. Nanotechnology, B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology, B.Sc. Electronics, B.Sc. Agriculture, B.Voc. Agriculture, M.B.B.S, B.A.M.S, B.S.M.S and B.V.Sc. with not less than CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.

M.Sc. Biotechnology
Programme Objective:

• Objective of this course is to understanding various disciplines in biotechnology; acquire methodological knowledge in them and application of this knowledge in a suitable manner in required fields.
• Nurturing novel ideas and meaningful insights through scientific thinking.
• Understanding the significance of sustainable scientific processes to support the environment.

Eligibility Criteria:

A candidate seeking admission to M.Sc. Biotechnology must have at least 50% marks in any branch of Life Sciences viz. Zoology, Botany, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biological Techniques & Specimen Preparation and Microbiology or Chemistry at the graduate level; Candidates having BSc degree in Industrial Microbiology / Medical Microbiology/ MLT with 50% marks are also eligible. M.B.B.S/ B.Sc. Agriculture/ B.V.Sc./ B.F.Sc/ B.Tech (Biotechnology) Degree holders can also apply.

M.Sc. Food Technology & Quality Assurance
Programme Objective:

The M.Sc. program aims to enable the graduate to acquire the scientific, technical and professional skills for teaching/research/executive career in the food industry/food research and teaching institutions.
• It provides an understanding of the science of food technology together with a deeper comprehension of food quality assurance.

Eligibility Criteria:

Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Food Science & Technology, Food Technology & Quality Assurance, Food Science & Quality Control, Home Science with Chemistry (as auxiliary), Microbiology or Life Science stream with a minimum of 50 % marks in aggregate from a recognized University can apply for the M. Sc Food Technology & Quality Assurance Program. SC/ST candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination. SEBC (Socially and educationally backward class) OEC (Other Eligible Castes) will be given a relaxation of 3% and 5%, respectively in the prescribed minimum marks.

M.Sc. Plant Biotechnology
Programme Objective:

• The aim of the programme is to highlight the role played by Biotechnology in modern society and its relevance to sustainable development.
• It seeks to advance education and research in Plant Biotechnology and explore sustainable solutions for agriculture, environment and energy sectors.

Eligibility Criteria:

B.Sc. Botany, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science under Part III Core Group (Core + Complementary + Open Courses) with not less than CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.

M.Sc. Phytomedical Science & Technology
Programme Objective:

•The program aims to train students in the methods used to analyse and characterise medicinal natural products.
• Examine the safety and efficacy of currently used herbal medicines.
• To attain expertise in analytical and bioassay methods and the ethno pharmaceutical uses of plants from traditional systems of medicine.

Eligibility Criteria:

B.Sc. in Biotechnology, Pharmacology, Biophysics, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Biochemistry, Chemical Science and other biological sciences under Part III Core Group (Core + Complementary + Open Courses) with not less than CGPA of 2.00 out of 4. B.A.M.S/B.H.M.S/B.S.M.S/B.Pharm with not less than CGPA of 2.00 out of 4 are also eligible.
